Tomorrow would have been my dad's 56th birthday. I'm sure it will be a difficult day, so I've been thinking about what I want to do for it. Since I'm not in Indiana yet, I can't go visit his site, which I presume would be the most normal thing to do. So I've decided to take a route less traveled....
For those of you that knew my dad, he was a bourbon connoisseur of sorts. My dad took interest in bourbon many, many years ago. Maker's Mark was his favorite beyond favorites. We visited that distillery before I
even knew what being twenty-one meant. (He actually owns a barrel
there that's been aged to perfection & is ready for pick-up this
December, but I'll save that for another post.) Three years ago my parents came to visit me in Kentucky over Labor Day weekend & we toured the Woodford Reserve and the Four Roses Distillery as a 'birthday present.'

Routine, Routine
Since August 3rd was my last day of employment, I've fallen out of a routine of sorts. My mom flew down for a visit, we had a few days to get ready for our trip, and then we spent just over a week in Naples, Italy and the surrounding areas. Now that we're back, we've taken a couple days to readjust to EST and started the packing process. Today was the first morning that I went back to my normal breakfast routine of coffee followed by a smoothie. And since I crave routines, it was exactly on par with what I wanted.
You've Got to Start Somewhere
Here it is - my first attempt at blogging!
I love to bake (read: could bake until exhaustion, but still be happy) and over the course of what's become almost three years in North Carolina, I began regularly baking for my husband, my co-workers, my friends, and 2/6 functions and potlucks. As much as I will miss Jacksonville, seeing as it is the place where I have made some of the very best friends a girl could ask for, it's time to relocate to Chicago where we can enjoy having our families close by. I'm starting the blog so I can still share what I happen to be baking, albeit in a different way. I did a decent amount of research yesterday about how to give appropriate credit regarding recipes and decided that food blogging is serious business!! I don't want to pigeon hole this page as only for recipes - I also want to include updates on our lives and what not since we're moving over sixteen hours away from some of our very close friends. With that said, I can't promise that I'll have a new post everyday or even every other day, but I will definitely share bits and pieces of our trek towards city life and of course, I will update you whenever I try a new recipe!
Enjoy!!
